Historical Background of Dingalan
Early History
- Originally inhabited by Dumagat and Agta indigenous peoples, who lived in the uplands and along rivers.
- The area was remote and sparsely populated during the Spanish and American colonial periods, often managed from nearby provinces like Nueva Ecija and Quezon.
Municipal Establishment
- Dingalan was officially created as a municipality on August 20, 1962, through Executive Order No. 395 signed by President Diosdado Macapagal.
- Prior to this, it was a barangay of Baler, then of General Tinio (Papaya) in Nueva Ecija.
Disasters and Resilience
- Dingalan is located in a typhoon-prone zone, and has experienced several major storms.
- Most notably, Typhoon Winnie (2004) and Typhoon Ulysses (2020) caused severe flooding and landslides, leading to loss of lives and major damage to infrastructure.
- These events highlighted the need for disaster preparedness and sustainable land management.
