Maria Aurora - Mystical, mesmerizing, fog-blanketted so characteristic of this town. Maria Aurora that used to be; Mision San Jose de Casignan as better known during the early years of the Spanish inquisitions, and San Josep as popularly known during the early years of my upbringing, was established by Fray Manuel de Olivencia, OFM, on 1753. However, due to the shortage of church clergies, assigned priest did not make it there until eight years later, and the honor went to Fray Francisco Ferreras, OFM. From this mission, he spread the gospel of Christ among the non-Christians. During the time of its establishment, San Jose de Casignan was populated by the Ilongots or the Bugkalots as the Ifugao called them. As years drags on, people all over the Archipelago migrated to San Jose as land prospectors forcing the Ilongot to vacate the mission. The first known Christian who set foot on San Jose besides the friars was a daring immigrant from Liliw, Laguna by the name of Jose Bitong (hearsay). To avoid being massacred by the tribe he married an young Ilongot woman. He won the tribes trust and admiration, and became their leader. From then on flows of people continued. With the influx of the new comers, the Ilongot moved further in-land avoiding the interference of outsiders to their primitive way of life. They settled on the foothill of the Sierra Madre known today as Kadayakan. Moreover, twety-two years prior to the enactment of the Philippine Commonwealth, Governor Cameron William Forbes, on 21 August 1912 declared this land areas as reservation for non-Christians. Likewise Calabgan in Casiguran,Dibut, and Umiray in Dingalan. Coincidentally, the assigned patron saint was San Vicenten Ferrer and derivative of Ferreras, the parish priest.

I actually found this website just browsing around the internet. it's pretty impressive i must say. i was just in San Luis last month, and i have to say, i had the time of my life. i was blown away by the hospitality and the love people had shown me. it was a great experience joining Bb.San Luis 2003 even though i didn't win. it's okay, i survived. it didn't kill me. just knowing that many people supported me during and after the pageant already made me feel like a winner. Love going out to the Mirandilla's, the Susada's, and everybody from Brgy.1 in San Luis. i love you guys and i miss you. i'm coming back in February. San Luis, here i come again!!!

Well. well, well. It is so lonely here. Madami kasi jammer, ay. Suggestion why don't you require posters to register/login first before they can post. It is easy to post here so initially it attracts many posters but this is a double bladed style. A lot of people just want to mess around. Easily, undesirables can post using bogus email. See, the legitimate ones got turned off quickly. Nababoy kasi forum nyo. It can be a forum for healthy discussions like the ones above, a means to communicate from the grassroots up. So the governor can have access to information even if you dont see her at all. Di naman na kasi Taga-Baler ay.

Its good to know and I am proud that I saw Aurora's name while going to Airport (in the newly constructed fly-over from Edsa to Tramo)as one of the provinces that are now being promoted by the Dept of Tourism as a tourist spot. However I saw it once as compared to other provinces. I tried to find it again in EDSA along Makati area but I cant find one either. Hope someone up there could ask Gordon to put more Aurora banner.

We have plenty of available resources in Baler. If we can only concentrate of making efforts to improve it, I have no doubt that we will prosper. In order to promote tourism in Baler, we have to attract them by showing that we have something unique to offer. Baler has everything they can possibly imagine if we only developed. Our Govt. official has the power to do it. We can start by making Baler more accessible by any means and creating full security in the area. A good number of foreigners was in Baler during the shooting of "Apocalypse Now" and our current yearly surf competition. This is a good start. I have been around into different places in the Far East and Baler has more potential than those places. Take a look at Phuket, Thailand, this is one of the most visited places in the Far East.It started when one of the James Bond movie was filmed here. After the shooting of "The Man with a Golden Gun", the local people started to develop the area and promoted tourism. They rank one of the best now. We can put Baler on the map if we can improve the area and not destroying our natural resources. We can do it! You'll never know, Baler might be the next liberty port visit of the US 7th Fleet. It is a dream, but it can happen.

I am glad to see this website. I hope that more and more websites about the provinces of the Philippines will be created. This website could be a very good example for other provinces to follow. This website, in my own opinion, should be commended by Mr. Gordon who is promoting Philippine tourism around the world. I hope that those who post their messages in this website will refrain from 'bad' words to help this website promote the province and the Philippines abroad. Thailand's tourism is prosperous because of their websites (one of the big reasons). From a Pinoy in Cambodia

Its good to know that many of us know the great potential Baler has to offer when it comes to tourism. One foreigner I knew who had been to various parts of the world and resides in Hawaii predicted that Baler would be like Hawaii 20 years from now. It might not reach that point but becoming famous just like Boracay would already be enough to boost Baler economic progress. In my own view, we can make it happen by just inviting foreign investors to set -up resort in Baler, since they have all the networks to bring their foreign customers here. But before it can be done, it must be initiated by the provincial government to open the airport in Bakung and contracted Asian Spirit to even schedule atleast a weekly flight to Baler. Just like Boracay, the problem of travel time and convenience could easily be remedied under this condition. Resort owners in Baler could easily offer packaged tours ranging from hiking to Ditumabo falls, surfing, snorkelling, boating or just enjoy the majestic view of the ocean. They could easily do this packaged promotion in the internet. Once it became famous to the foreigner it would became famous locally just like Boracay. Hopefully of course, this must be plan with a conscious effort to preserve and protect Baler environment.

One of the factors affecting our right of sufrage is our culture....It has become our culture to vote who is the most popular.

Baler has a good potential in tourism and investment. The improvement of Baler-Bongabon Rd. is a good sign. Hopefully, it will continue until it is done irregardless who is in "Govt. position". Baler must be easily accessible by land, sea, and air. We have to develop our airport system to invite more investors and tourists likewise. Our Ports need more work for bigger commercial vessel coming alongside the pier. On top of the list is SECURITY. Baler must be safe and secured. We have to add more highly qualified policemen to beef up our security force. We have to look at the big picture instead of individualism. Election is coming up so think about who is best qualified to do the job. Think!

Well, the truth is hindi lang naman Baler Beach ang puwedeng i-develop. There is a lot of beaches around Aurora Province na pwedeng id-develop....The question is : How do we market these tourist attractions to potential investors? It is good that the government is doing something for the improvement of the Bongabon-Baler Road. This will enhance transport of goods from/to the province of Aurora. This will also enhance transport of tourists...YOu see, it is not that easy to develop a certain place. It requires time and big amount of investment. No one would invest his time, effort and money if he is not sure of the profitability of his project....If Aurora Province can provide full security for its tourists, if Aurora Province can invite investors in the tourism industry, and if it can provide full security for its tourists, then, why would our province be left behind? There is a lot of talented Aurorians who are unemployed....It is a great task for our government and private entrepreneurs to create job in favor of them...we should remember it is not that easy. The challenge is for us Aurorans to make our province safe and secure to visitors....For the government to invite more investors in the tourism industry...

The beach of Baler is much better than Bali. Baler beach is shaded by trees while Bali's is too bare and hot. The only advantage Bali has is that it has it's own International Airport and other complementing tourist attraction such as wood carving, painting, developed sceneries similar to Tagatay/Taal and is actually promoted and set up as a tourist destination. This added attration complementing the beach is very much possible in Baler. The Ermita area, for example offers a sight to behold, and a lot more. Tourism will certainly boost our local economy there. Don't you think so?

We just attended the Bitong Clan Reunion held in Mt Carmel, Maria Aurora last Sunday, 28 April 2003. It was well attended though maybe less than 50% of the actual population of Bitong Clan. It was nice seeing relatives you did not know. Old enemies who turned up to be relatives and old friends as well. Kudos to those wo initiated it. Whatever your intention is, it was successful. You have just proven once and for all that Bitong Clan is a big and formidable voting group if you can just muster it. No wonder the great Vice- Governor of Aurora came in there and proclaim she too is a Bitong. Naturally those presents were asking and the old folks could not trace how could she really be connected to any Bitong. What a typical politician, riding whatever cheap gimmicks she could make use of to get some votes. I hope Bitong Clan and other voters are not really that naive as she probably thought of.

Last May 17, 2002, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo approved Executive Order (EO) No. 103 "Dividing Region IV into Region IV-A and Region IV-B, Transferring the province of Aurora to Region III and for other purposes" which divided the Southern Tagalog into two sub-regions namely: CALABARZON (Region IV-A) composed of the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Ba*****s, Rizal, and Quezon, and; MIMAROPA (Region IV-B) which stands for Oriental and Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan. With the partition of Southern Tagalog, the total number of regions in the country increased to 17. Under the same EO, the province of Aurora was transferred to Region III. The transfer of the province to Central Luzon was justified based on the following reasons: 1) the accessibility of Aurora from Nueva Ecija; 2) the historical ties of Aurora to Pampanga, and; 3) the inclusion of the province in Central Luzon's Medium-Term Development Plan five years ago. The relocation was also meant to speed up the development of the province. Long before the issuance of the EO, the police and military units in Aurora were already under the jurisdiction of regional commands of Central Luzon. (http://www.nscb.gov.ph/ru4/news_division.htm)

I am afraid I am too naive or just outdated. Could someone provide me why Aurora was transferred to the jurisdiction of Central Luzon. It must be advantageous to us, otherwise, what is this for? Will CL finally improve the roads leading to Aurora? Thanks but please stick to facts. Let us avoid assumptions and unverifiable rumors. Waiting...

Netshell History of Dipaculao Dipaculao was established by Fray Sebastian dela Madre de Dios the missionary in Baler, in 1719 under the name of Mission de San Miguel for the christianization of the Ilongots. When the American took over the Philippies in August 1898, The American Military Governor of Tayabas, Col. Cornilius Gardener ceeded Dipaculao to be a barrio of Baler in July 1901. It became a town in November 27, 1950 by virtue of Executive Order Nos. 246 & 375. Comments are welcome at my email address.

If you have been to other places in and outside the Philippines, you will realize how lucky we are in Baler. We have been blessed by a rich natural resources, beach, rivers, falls other, sceneries, flora and fauna, ideal temperature and more importantly, wonderful and beautiful people. We are actually the envy of many others. We should, however, learn to conserve and preserve all these natural wealth.

Yes, it would have been a big contribution if the good governor can open up the airport once more. It would surely boost tourism and fastrack our progress. People on the rush can have other option than just speeding up in the dangerous but exciting and challenging Mountain range.

I just came back from visitng baler and stayed at Maan's beach house. Fantastic sea view. I fell in love with baler and the pacific ocean. The people are very very warm. I shall go back. But perhaps if the airport is ready it will attract more tourists. Please tell the governor I can organize trips there but I will hesistate to tell them that 3 hours of zigzagging is fun.

Ganga talaga ng Baler.... Lalo na ang Maria Aurora Memorial National Park! Let's hope and pray that the government and NGOs will do everything possible to preserve and protect this wonderfull treasure. Ive noticed that encroahment of some unconcerned people are slowly damaging the beauty of the park. While i was on my way back to Manila, i saw some men carrying air riffles. They seem to come from a small group of residents situated about a kilometer away from DENR (Eagle Watch) outpost. I even visited the outpost to report that. They said that they confiscate these if ever they see one. Nonetheless, i understand that they need to feed their families but if u allow them to carry this kind of weapon then the possibility of an endangered specie being shot is not remote. They (Eagle Watch)even admitted that they confiscated a Philippine-Hawk Eagle and a Philippine Eagle believed to have been caught in San Luis!!! This proves that these hunters will not respect the law. They just want to hunt anything that has value. !!! Why not the government relocate these people to a place where they do not damage the park. Dapat walang resident within the park. IF THE GOVERNMENT AND NGOs WILL NOT ACT FAST THEN THIS WILL SUFFER THE SAME FATE AS MT. APO IS FACING RIGHT NOW. MORE AND MORE PEOPLE ARE SLOWLY CREEPING INTO THE EDGES OF THE "PROTECTED!!!!" PARK. KAYO PA KAYA EH MAY CONCRETE ROADS NA THAT CUTS THROUGH THE PARK AT KAUNTI LANG ANG "ACTIVE" NA NGO SA LUGAR NYO.
